On Jobs: Voted to raise minimum wage to $15/hr.

The U.S. House passed legislation that would raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2025, but the GOP-controlled Senate is not expected to vote on the measure this Congress. [Steven] Horsford (4th District) and Democratic Reps. Susie Lee (3rd District) and Dina Titus (1st District) backed the bill but Republican Rep. Mark Amodei (2nd District) didn't.

On Education: Student loan crisis is crippling young people

The student loan crisis in this country is crippling young people from being able to get on their feet. And many students are being taken advantage of by not only predatory lenders, but predatory for profit schools. And many of them would have been better off not even going to school in the first place. We need to focus on the student debt crisis, bringing down the cost of higher ed and making sure that we're expanding Pell Grants and expanding access to higher education.

On Government Reform: Member of the Problem Solvers Caucus: break the gridlock

I'm a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus and one of our demands was break the gridlock. And one of the key rules that we got passed was if a bill has 290 co-sponsors, it must get action on the floor. And so, you know, ending the filibuster would have an impact like that, so that one person cannot block action that has . overwhelming support of the American public.

On Gun Control: Ban high capacity magazines, assault weapons

I don't believe having a military-style assault weapon is necessary in this country. And so I honor that we have the 2nd Amendment, that law abiding citizens own guns, but I do think that we don't need high capacity magazines or assault weapons on our streets.

On Immigration: Against funding ill-conceived border wall

I believe that any country should secure its border and should have a policy on who they want to come to the country and what their path to citizenship is. And so I believe that we should have that . do I believe that we should spend money on a wall that people who are experts at the borders say will have no or very little impact? I certainly don't agree that taking money from our military and reducing our national security to build an ill-conceived wall is the right policy at all.

On Immigration: Secure border by investing in people, technology

I think that there are investments that we need to make and . it's in people. It's in technology. It is in also making sure that we are able to process people coming through. I mean, there's such a backlog . People are waiting years to be processed through. And so there needs to be an investment up and down that chain so that when people are coming here to claim asylum or coming here to get into the states legally, that we have a method.

On Health Care: Defend ACA; improve its coverage

Once regarded as radical, proposals to create a government-run health care system serving all Americans are making inroads among mainstream Democrats. But Nevada's federal lawmakers aren't exactly jumping on the Medicare-for-all bandwagon. Lee wants to "defend the ACA and find solutions that can improve its coverage," according to spokesman Jes£s Espinoza.

On Education: Against vouchers, for choice for parents

Nevada has something similar to that voucher program -- the Education Savings Accounts program -- although the Legislature has not funded it. Lee said she doesn't support ESAs, which generally are opposed by Democrats. "Obviously offering choice to parents that's really what I stand for and that's what I'll work to make sure we have here in Nevada," she said.

On Education: For expanding early childhood education

While progressives have proposed free and universal early childhood education programs, Lee didn't commit to such a dramatic plan. But "I have always been a proponent of expanding early childhood education," she said. "Early childhood education is one of the most effective interventions to help kids, especially kids living in poverty, prepare to succeed," she said. "Obviously I am passionate about that issue."

On Free Trade: Expand trade but protect workers, environment

Asked about the North American Free Trade Act (NAFTA) and TPP in a Sept. 13 interview, she said she supports "expanding trade but also making sure we have the protections of the environment and the workers internationally," as well as "helping our country create not only good-paying jobs but good-paying careers."

On Health Care: Don't repeal Obamacare, make necessary changes

Lee said she feels strongly about the Affordable Care Act after watching her uninsured parents struggle with huge medical bills when her mom had a heart attack. They couldn't get coverage because of preexisting conditions. "The ACA to me was refreshingly a bipartisan solution to a problem that has been plaguing this country for years," she said. "But it's not perfect and I do think that things do need to be done to change it." She opposed any effort to repeal Obamacare.

On War & Peace: Opposed Iran Nuclear Deal, but against repealing it

Lee said at a 2016 candidate forum that she would have opposed the Iran nuclear deal but would enforce its provisions if elected to Congress. "I feel that Iran is a destabilizer in the region and an exporter of terrorism," she said. "I'm not for repealing the deal, but I had grave concerns."
